Jamie Jeffers
British History PodcastJamie Jeffers is the creator and host of the British History Podcast, a podcast that has been cataloging the history of Britain and mocking royal dynasties since 2011. Oprah, the National Trust of Scotland, Mensa, Harper’s Magazine, and Forbes have all recommended the show… and so has Jamie’s grandmother, if you’re into that kind of thing. He spends most of his days reading incredibly dry documents in hopes of finding little entertaining nuggets from history… like the time the monks of England were chastised for having drunken orgies. It’s a tough job, and no one has to do it, but Jamie is going to do it anyway… because drunken orgies. Jamie is a lawyer by trade, but that job was depressing and boring. So he’s doing this instead. Jamie lives in Portland Oregon with Dr. Zee and their son.
Dr. Zee
British History PodcastDr. Zee is the co-producer and sometimes co-host of the British History Podcast. She joined the Podcast as a way to procrastinate earning her PhD while attending the London School of Economics. Dr. Zee’s education is best described as “poorly planned” and ranges from anthropology, to archaeology, before finally capping off in sociology. She currently works as a social scientist for the government, specializing in qualitative methodologies. Which means she specializes in studying peoples stories….sciencely. In the British History Podcast, Zee keeps an eye on the big stories; culture, economics, and power. Because what is the point of learning about history if we also aren’t learning a little bit about ourselves?

In his talk, he’d like to introduce you to the unknown world of the Soviet black market, tell you all about the brave men and women, who in spite the oppressive regime, smuggled in both basic necessities and western media – illegal books, prohibited music, even porn. The stuff that made the regime collapse. For this, he’s done many interviews and done an in-depth research in the still-existing “gray” market of so called “Latgalīte” himself.
